Today, I am joining Jenny and the other lovely ladies
at Suscipio for my first Catholic Woman's Almanac entry.

I am giving thanks to God for:
A nice warm woodfire to sit next to on these wint'ry days Down Under.
A faithful husband who goes out to chop the wood each evening no matter how tired or sore he is from the day's work!
Phonecall from a dear friend who wanted to visit me today

Watching Snow White and the Huntsman at the cinema with son and his girlfriend on Friday.
( couldn't help seeing the analogies to the Gospel in the battle of the dark queen and the white heart.)
Maltesers..!
God's protection of my elderly father-in law, who's car was hit from behind last Saturday, and sandwiched so badly it is now a"write-off"!
Praise the Lord, he was not hurt!

I found beauty in the ordinary here:
From the kitchen:
teriaki chicken stirfry with noodles for tonight's dinner
I am praying:
that next Sunday will be the start of something important for my husband and I.
It has been a long-held hope and prayer of mine that my non-catholic husband would come to Mass with me.
While we were out for coffee the other day he told me that he knows how important it is to me and so, he will come!
I am praying that nothing hinders now!! I covet your prayers too..please :-)
Also praying for my darling 96yr old mother who lost her very dear and closest friend last week.
She was too frail and upset to go the funeral today.
I am pondering:
why the Salvation Army thrift store would sell smutty and base novels,
but throw this image of Our Lady of Perpetual Succor in their garbage bin!
My husband rescued it while working for them as he thinks it is a very beautiful icon.
It is now the only picture on the walls in our loungeroom and hangs in full view of all who enter our home!
I am hoping:
that my blog friends don't think my new blog title is too pretentious :-(
and that I will be able to sleep tonight and be healed of this painful flu that is beginning to take hold.
I am meditating on this:
"Meditation and contemplative prayer,
is not so much a way to find God as
a way of resting in him whom we have found,
who loves us,
who is near to us,
who comes to us to draw us to himself."
~Thomas Merton

I just stumbled into your blog. I have to tell you the picture and the soft butterscotch background and picture just wowed me. It is awesome. I wish I found it myself first. BTW, Our Lady of Perpetual Help/Succour is my husband's favorite icon.
ReplyDeleteHi Trish and welcome to CWA! I enjoyed reading your entry. I don't think it a coincidence that your dear husband is now agreeing to go to Mass with you after he rescued our Lady from the dumpster, how wonderful! And your sweet mother, prayers for her.
ReplyDeleteI love this chance (Catholic Almanac) to really "have a visit" with those who write such beautiful blogs as yours. I would love to be where you are right now, as I am a fan of cool weather rather than hot (it has been in the 100s F. where I am). And that rainbow is wonderful - thank you for sharing it with the rest of us! Thanks be to God for protection of your father in law, and with a prayer for your mother. And for your husband, absolutely. God bless.
ReplyDeleteTrish, another beautiful feast for the eyes and the heart. Love the new look, and your almanac was wonderful. Loved the part about Our Lady being rescued, and am so grateful to God and delighted that your husband will be going to Mass with you this Sunday. Praise God! I will pray for you tomorrow...my birthday, so maybe those prayers will be extra special :)
ReplyDeleteLove and prayers, my friend.
